There’s a big word being thrown around recently: diversity. The dictionary defines it simply as variety. I, personally, like a little variety in my life. I drive different ways to get to one place. I like different kinds of food. I order something different when I go to a restaurant multiple times. I change purses and shoes often (but most women do.) But unfortunately, there are people who would like things to stay the same day in and day out and do not like change. They don’t redecorate their houses and stick to the same avocado green or yellow of the past (ick.) They don’t have a smart phone because their flip phone is just fine, even though they think it’s cool to see their friends and family look up things on their phones. And they don’t want racial equality in our country.
But what does God say? In Psalm 139:13 says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!” In Genesis God says that He made all of us in His image. I take that to mean that He has our general form: a head, two eyes, a nose, a mouth, two ears, a torso, two arms and two legs. But the color and length of all of those limbs and parts are as different as there are types of flowers on the earth. But I don’t see anywhere in the Bible God says to judge a person by the color of his/her skin. Unfortunately, a man did that all on his own and still does it today.
Wouldn’t it be a boring world if everyone were the same. What if you walked outside your door and everyone looked the same? Every tree was the same? Every bird was the same? Every cat and dog was the same breed and color? God gave us variety so we could teach each other, learn from each other, compliment each other and love each other. Help me fellow Christians to love your fellow man/woman no matter what color or size they are.
