Life will never be perfect

My seventeen year old daughter was in an accident two days ago. As a parent your first reaction is always panic when you get that phone call. To make matters worse, we had driven to the coast, which is an hour away so we weren’t near the scene and had to find out what was going on only via telephone (praise God for technology right?!) We finally arrived at the hospital and were relieved to see that she only had a few cuts from broken glass and bruises on her arm from the impact. God was watching over her because it could have been much worse.

A friend and I were just commenting the other day that life is never calm and easy. We just have to keep relying on God to get us through things that come our way. “In this world you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So life may not be perfect, (after all, if it were, then we would already be in Heaven) but we have a loving God who has a plan that will show us a way to have a joyful and fulfilling life. Pray and ask Him what He wants you to do.

God is love and so can you

Further instructions in the book of Colossians include: “Now is the time to get rid of anger, malicious behavior, slander and dirty language” (vs. 8.) I don’t know how many times in the Bible God says don’t be angry or control your anger and yet so many christains yell and scream at people to change their ways and you have to live this way or that way. Do you think maligning the character of the opposing side, and their leadership is what God would want you to do? And they wonder why what they are doing isn’t working. The Bible says that God is love. So wouldn’t people respond better if you told them they should change because God loves tham and cares for them. Or better yet, develop a relationip with someone and love them with meals or clothes or friendship before telling them about God and then they might be more likely to listen. Isn’t that what ministry is?

Verses 16 and 17 tell us when ministering to people:”Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. …..And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” So even if you are a college student trying to get through classes, do it to the best of your ability because God wants you to succed. If you are a stay at home mom, cook, clean and love your family the best that you can because you are showering both your love and God’s love on them. And if you are in the dog eat dog corporate world you can still do it as a representative of the Lord by doing it with integrity and love. Hope this gives you something to think about today.

God doesn’t have favorites!

So I found some more scriptures about God loving all people and not favoring one person (or race) over another. In Colossians 3:11(NLT) it says, “In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave or free, Christ is all that matters and He lives in all of us.” I am not a theologian but that verse tells me that God loves all men and women and He expects us to love everyone equally. The rest of the chapter goes on to say that we should be merciful, kind, humble, gentle, and patient with others, all others, not just those in our family, not just those in our neighborhood but everyone we come in contact with.

Wow! He expects a lot of us doesn’t He?! Yes, He expects us to be “Christ-like” and those are some BIG shoes to fill. But verse eleven also says that Christ lives in us and we also have the Holy Spirit to guide us. So I urge you again friends to be Christlike and love everyone equally, retweet this message and pass it on to your friends so everyone we know will do the same. God bless you all.

What would you do?

So I drove up to the ATM machine at the bank today and the screen still had the bank balance of the person in front of me. For a second I was a little shocked. Then the screen went to the question: “Do you want another transaction?” And I realized the guy in front of me had forgotten his card in the machine. So I pushed no and took his card out of the card reader and finished my own transaction. I almost forgot my own card because I still had his card in my hand but I put  my card and my money in my purse and went to the front of the bank and took his card to the teller. As I was pulling out of the parking lot I saw him come back and he also saw me. He noticed me motioning to him and I told him I had taken his card inside.

What would you have done? Have you ever seen the show “What would you do?” I don’t usually watch it because there’s usually something else on TV we watch. But when I do I’d like to think I would say something. I did say something one time when a man was loudly cursing in a restaurant and I had young children with me. And I thank God that I live in a small town and most people are decent and there isn’t much crime here. But some of the things I have seen on TV make me cringe and turn the channel definitely.
