The Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22 “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives:love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.”

These nine traits are called “fruit of the Spirit” because something good is produced in the heart of the believer and for the person who is receiving the “fruit.” Fruit are really good, are they not? When you bite into an apple or an orange, it leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. A lemon may be sour but it adds yummy flavor to dishes when you are cooking. And also notice that the group of nine are also called fruit and not fruits with an s. In my research, I read that it’s because all of these things should be together and not only one trait manifested in the believer of Christ. And of course there is no law against these things since they are the best thing to happen to someone since before sliced bread! Who wouldn’t want someone to love them or be kind to them, to take them by the hand and lead them to water or some food or shelter?

As I said in my last post, there are some people who are hard to deal with: like the grumpy grocery store clerk, or the man who cuts in line at the coffee shop or the head of the whatever committee who bowls right over somone who has a new idea and just does things his or her way no matter what the majority wants. Unfortunately, there are even christians who are rude and obnoxious. There may be sometimes when we have to take a stand and make sure no one is being bullied or laws are not broken. But there are times when we may have to grin and bear it so that our calm christian witness (peace, patience, kindness, gentleness) shows through and God gets the glory. This is just the beginning of the subject of these calming and peaceful traits God wants us to have. For the month of January I am going to talk more about them and hopefully help you see ways you can practice them in your life and bless not only yourself but someone else too.

Let me leave you with an example that happened to me this last week: I was waiting in line at the grocery store and noticed a man behind me who had a basket in his hand instead of a cart. He started out by complaining about the long lines and said, “Well, I guess this is the shortest line and you don’t have too many items.” I pointed out to him that there was a lane for fifteen items or less right next to us and he could go there. He was so relieved and overjoyed it was comical. I am a peaceful person by nature but giving him a gentle answer to his stressed out day relieved him tremendously. You never know what kind of day people are having and sometimes just a smile or kind word can make the rest of the day so much better. Click To Tweet Go with God my friends and have a blessed day!

He does and you are….loved

Let’s face it, the world can be an ugly place to live. People are not always nice to each other. I’ve heard so many stories about parents hurting their kids with words, making them feel less then the wonderful people they are. Some family members pick on one person that may be clumsy or chubby just so they can entertain themselves at holiday get-togethers. I’ve heard about people who hang out with friends who do nothing but put them down so they can make themselves feel better. And cyber-bullies type their hate onto people they may or may not know because they are bored and think someone wants to hear their opinion. What I do know is that all of these people are making others feel unloved and lowering their self-esteem to the point that the world does not believe that God loves them. They only rely on other people’s love and most of the time, that fails.

If you’ve read my bio you know that I have 5 kids. And I have been through the scary driving lessons with all of them driving now. The rule in the car is the person who is driving gets to choose what is on the radio. (But no rap music, that’s one thing I can’t stand is rap music.) So this is why I usually prefer to make my husband instruct the kids when they are driving or accompanying them in-training. The other reason is I feel like I am in a panic most of the time and holding onto the seat cushions!

I always have the radio on a christian radio station. It keeps my focus on God and keeps me calm. There’s a song on the radio called “Live like you’re loved.” It says, “…act like you’ve been set free. His love has made you more than enough. So go ahead and be who he made you to be.” I know the one person we can count on to love us all the time is God. When our boyfriends/girlfriends/spouses are not being particularly kind today or our children are not being respectful or our friends are not loving us the way we want them to, all we have to do is look to God for the perfect love that we need. He does love you and and you are loved today, tomorrow and unto eternity! White as Snow

It’s snowing again in Washington. That is not unusual except that I don’t live in the mountains. I live at sea level and it is unusual for us. Driving down the road I was thinking how beautiful it is when snow is falling, when it covers everything like a blanket of beauty and quiet. But then cars drive over it and pollution and man made things make it dirty, like our sins and thoughts make us dirty. We are born as innocent babes but make choices that change us and our lives. But I praise God often that He is a forgiving God and all we have to do is ask and we are innocent and white as snow again.

You may think you are too late if you make a mistake. Do think you’ve done something that God can’t forgive? Are there some sins that are so bad He doesn’t love you anymore? If you’ve been to rehab more than 2 times and are still filled with temptation will He help you? If you  have been to prison is there still hope for you? The Bible says “nothing -NO THING – can separate us from God’s love.” So HAVE NO FEAR He will never leave you or stop loving you and His forgiveness will wash you WHITE AS… Click To Tweet

#attitudeofgratitude space and sky

I thought I had posted this a week ago but aparently not. So here it is a week late: I have a few days of thankfulness to make up since I was on vacation. As I was telling you, this past week I spent time out of town on vacation. The difference between Washington state and Arizona is vast and wide space. In the Evergreen state we have trees, trees and lots of trees, evergreens and maples and pines too. But Arizona was mostly desert, dirt rocks, rock mountains and some green trees and shrubs. But we saw the most beautiful sunset ever. Most of the time, there was not a cloud in the sky, which was a big relief because this time of year, Washington skies are full of clouds and rain. But one evening, there were a few clouds and the sunset shining on those clouds made the most awesome colors in the sky. But here, see for yourself….

Beautiful!
