A story of obedience

I heard a story on the radio the other day. If I had heard it before the book was done I would have included it since it was so relevant. But now you can hear it and see how important God’s love and loving OURSELVES is.

A woman called a Christian radio station to tell them a story on “Make a difference Monday.” If you listen to KLOV, who has many stations around the country then you may have heard this. She was in the grocery store and saw a woman in a wheelchair. She thought she heard God tell her to go to her and tell her she was beautiful and God loved her. I’m sure you’ve heard God speak to you before but did not have the courage to do what He asked. You came up with some excuse not to obey God. So the woman went about her shopping but prayed for her. When she was done and on the way to her car, she saw her again with her mother loading their car with groceries. The woman’s urge to talk to her was even stronger this time. So she left her groceries by her own car and walked over to them. She said, “I just wanted you to know that you are beautiful and God loves you. He told me to come over and tell you that.”

The woman in the wheelchair suddenly burst into tears which of course put the obedient Christian into shock. But she rushed to reassure her that it was the best thing she could have said. She had recently become depressed and had already decided she was going to commit suicide. She just didn’t know how yet. But in obeying God, the woman said something she needed to hear. The Christian woman prayed with her and I think she said they were going to stay in contact with each other.

The woman didn’t feel beautiful because she was in a wheelchair. We don’t know how or why she came to be there. But she is still God’s MASTERPIECE whether she is in a wheelchair or not! God made people of all colors and shapes, some because of life’s trauma come away with scars, and all of us are imperfect. But God still loves all of us and considers us His works of art. The scripture come from Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s Masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” I hope you will read His word, the Bible, and find out how much He loves you and He has a plan for you.

You are God’s Masterpiece, part 2

This is an excerpt from my new book “You are God’s Masterpiece!” which will be released

on February 22, 2017.

Wouldn’t you love to feel the freedom that Jesus says we can have?

But many people doubt it’s possible.

We doubt God loves us because we have sinned and don’t think God will forgive us. But every human has sinned. Since the Adam and Eve ate the apple from the forbidden tree, there has been sin on earth. The Jews in the Old Testament had to sacrifice their animals for their sins to be forgiven. But praise God all we have to do is ask and our sins will be cast as far as the East is from the West. No matter how far we go, East will never meet West. All we have to do is confess and He will forgive. “But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us.” (1 John 1:9) And it’s okay if we forget to mention a sin because God knows everything we have ever done and he knows your heart. He knows you are asking for forgiveness for all of your sins, even those you do not remember.

Psalm 51 is written by David after Nathan comes to him and tells him that God knows what he did with Bathsheba:

“Have mercy on me O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out my stain of sins. Wash me clean from my guilt.”

Psalm 51 mentions God’s mercy, compassion and love as His reasons to forgive us. He also washes us clean from guilt. His judgment against us is just but He forgives because He loves us. David realizes what he has done is wrong. (For those not familiar with the story, David has an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and then makes plans to have her husband killed in battle.) He then asks God to forgive him, clean his heart and renew his spirit and his joy. Read the Psalm, think and pray on the parts of forgiveness that you struggle with.

Do you not believe that God is merciful?

Do you not believe that God can wash away your guilt?

If He is powerful enough to erase your sin, can’t He wipe the guilt away too? “For nothing is impossible with God!” (Luke 1:37)

As humans we sometimes have low self esteem because someone in our lives has hurt us emotionally, BUT GOD WILL NEVER DO THAT. It’s one thing you can count on in this life, GOD WILL NEVER HURT YOU. HE ONLY DOES WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance and he chose them become like his Son…” Rom 8:28-29

You are God’s Masterpiece!

This is an excerpt of the first chapter of my new book “You are God’s Masterpiece,” which will be released on February 22, 2017.

Picture yourself inside this golden frame. This is how God sees you. He created you and sees you as His best creation.

THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL

God’s love is everlasting, never ending, faithful, and new every morning. Psalm 100:5 says, “His love endures forever. In Jeremiah 31:3 it says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Psalm 103:17 says, “The love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear Him.” In John 3:16 it says God loves us so much He sent His only son Jesus to die on the cross. Even if you were the only person on this earth, He still would have asked Jesus to sacrifice Himself so that you wouldn’t have to go live with Satan after you died. That’s how much He loves you. Why would He not love us? He created us. Psalm 139:13 says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Verse fourteen calls us His “marvelous workmanship” and “wonderfully complex.” Who else but an all powerful, all knowing and omniscient God could make so many unique yet different people?

Jesus didn’t have to give his life for you. He made the conscious decision to do it. He could have walked away at any time during the walk to the place where they crucified Him. He could have walked away and denied He was the Son of God after they whipped Him. He could have said “You’re right. I’m just a prophet sent by God to tell you to stop sinning,” after they gave Him that huge cumbersome beam to carry up the hill to Golgotha, or when He got to the top of the hill, or before they nailed those huge painful nails through His hands and feet. But He didn’t. He endured all of those things because He knew it was the only way that we humans could join Him and His Holy Father in Heaven.

Here are some other examples of God’s love from the Bible: In Genesis, God created Eve for Adam as a companion so he would not be alone. He gave Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars. He saved Noah and his family from the flood. He saved Joseph from his brothers’ murderous plans only to make him a great leader and save their lives later. He brought Moses from the palace of Egypt to the desert, striping him of his riches. But later used him to save his people from the pharaoh’s wrath. There are numerous stories from the Bible where God showed His love for His people. And He still does it today. I’m sure you can think of a time when God showed His love for you.

So then why do we doubt God’s love for us? Why do we hate our nose or our eyes or our chunky ankles or any number of other body parts. God says YOU are wonderfully made. In His eyes, you are perfect!

The Armor of God

“Stand your ground putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteous. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so you are fully prepared. In addition, hold up the shield of faith to stop the arrows of the devil. Put ont salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit which is the Wor of God.” Eph. 6:14-18

This passage starts with “STAND YOUR GROUND.” but who or what is it we have to stand our ground against? Just a few verses previous it says, “For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world…” Jesus says to live not of the world so we must stand our ground with Jesus on the side of righteousness, truth, peace, faith and salvation using the Word of God as our guide, to do that God gives us armor.
First is a belt of truth to strap on and it gives us the strength to tell the truth in love when we need to. For instance, my gift is teaching or explaining the scriptures like I do on this blog. I am an introvert so talking to people I have things in common (Christianity) with is my comfort zone. I am uncomfortable talking to strangers helping to save or convent them. But Jesus is the the Truth, the Life and the Way so he gives me the inspiration and strength to help them understand scriptures and his expectations of us. But if I needed to answer questions about Him and His sacrifice for our sins then I would put on my belt of truth to answer them.
The second piece of armor God gives us is the “body armor of righteousness.” When you obey God’s laws, you are righteous. His scriptures are righteousness. So if you are reading God’s word and trying to follow His commandments then you are righteous in the eyes of God. When you are reading His Word you are filled with the knowledge and righteousness of God and then you are able to use His words to inform others about him. You can show them how He loves them and helps make their lives full of joy, just like yours! It may be you need to use the Word to show someone the plan of salvation or showing them one of God’s promises. But along with the Holy Spirit, the armor of righteousness will assist you in your Christian life.
The third piece of armor are the “shoes of peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” God wants us to be prepared to give an answer when someone asks us questions about the Good News… Click To TweetAnd Jesus’ sacrifice gives us peace since we know our sins have been forgiven.
Fourth, we have the “shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.” Because let’s face it, we need lots of faith these days to resist the devil and block the temptations and attacks of the devil. And these arrows are not just fast and sharp, they are fiery. The NIV version of the Bible says the shield of faith “will extinguish the flaming arrows.” So as a visual person I can see in my mind the shield having a fire suppressing power. And I know you have been in situations, like I have, when you thought there was no way out unless God intervened. So we need this faith in God to put the devil in his place!
Then we must “put on the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.” We always have the helmet of salvation on. It has been there since the day you asked Jesus into your heart and has not been removed. Some people have doubts about their salvation, sometimes daily. But that should not be the case. God does not take your salvation away from you. He wants everyone to be saved. There may be some that would argue this with me but this is my personal opinion.
Finally, God again urges us to read His word this time calling it the “sword of the Spirit” because in the Bible He has called it “God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the [a]man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. ” 2 Tim 3:16, 17 (from the Amplified version) And the Holy Spirit helps us discern when to use the word when someone needs our help or just to use an act of kindness, if that would be a stronger witness.

I leave you with Paul’s wish for the Philippians, and my wish for you: “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation, the right righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ, for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” Phil. 1:11
