God’s thoughts

I got a journaling/coloring Bible about a month ago. I love adult coloring books and I had seen many pictures of others’ journaling Bibles. So I figured that it would be a fun thing to do and also enhance my bible study time. The problem is that I don’t really draw that well. It looks great when I color in what is already there created by someone who is a true artist. But if I try to draw something, it doesn’t look as good or it doesn’t look good to me. But it is kind of like someone who sings off key. God doesn’t care what they sound like. He only cares that they are singing out their love for Him. Those around you might not like it as  much but loves it because it is the thought that counts not the sound.

So today I was doing my Bible study and flipping through the Bible to see what pictures I could color. Of course there are also pages that have blank space for me to draw or write my own things. I was reading Psalm 139:17 “How precious are your thoughts about me.” Isn’t it amazing that God, who has billions of people to think about thinks “precious” thoughts about ALL of us??!! Some people think that He is always looking down at us with a frown on his face waiting for us to screw up. Some think he can’t wait to bring his wrath down on our heads and give up on us when we don’t fall in line after so many chances. But that’s not true, the Bible says He is on our side, cannot be separated from us and has only “precious” thoughts about us.

So just like all of the jewels in the picture, we are beautiful to him. We are unique, colorful and precious. He cherishes each one of us and looks forward to caring for us and planning our futures. And just like some people don’t need the  perfect voice to praise Him. I don’t need the perfect pictures in my Bible to please Him. He still thinks they are beautiful. So please, feel free to praise Him with a voice that is not perfect or draw and color with pictures that are not museum worthy. I write blog posts that are only read by 10-20 people a week but God still wants me to do it. And I know there are others like me who write just because they love to write not because anyone will read it.

I leave you with Paul’s wish for the Philippians, and my wish for you: “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation, the right righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ, for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” Phil. 1:11

#MovieReview “The Shack”

I saw the move “The Shack” last night. Wow, it was certainly an eye-opening tear jerker. And it was an awesome look at what a healthy relationship with God should look like. I cried laughed and sighed at what I saw on the screen. I learned two important things:

The first thing is we don’t know what another person goes through when they are in the last moments of their lives. They may be suffering at the hands of another person but still at peace because God is there with them. God may have taken away their pain miraculously or taken their minds to another place. And especially if they know they are going to Heaven after they die; they may not be suffering at all.

When my father was on his death bed, be prayed the “sinner’s prayer” with a chaplain at the veteran’s hospital. This chaplain was young and just graduated from the seminary, I think. The prayer was awkward and stilted. I’m not sure he had ever prayed or practiced it before. I might have been able to do a better job and I was just a baby christian myself. But he got the job done and my father was visibly relieved afterwards. I told him, ”Now, we can be together in Heaven, Dad.” And maybe one day he will tell me he’s sorry like the father of the main character. Because my dad wasn’t a good dad here on earth. I know there are hundred, millions of people even who turn to Christ at the very last second of their lives. But God is just pleased that they do because He wants everyone to come to salvation, even the criminals, as He says in the movie.

The second thing I learned in the movie is that God is our Judge and no one else. We have all sinned and fallen short of His glory, his target of perfection. So every time your hero, your favorite celebrity, your government officials and especially your friends and family members do something wrong, don’t condemn them and make them suffer for what they have done wrong. FORGIVE them and give them a chance to do it right the next time. For more about what God says on forgiveness and God’s love in the Bible read my new book:

Driving through rainbows

Emotionally, this was a very bad week. I need to go back and reread the words that God gave me in the book I just wrote. Last Sunday at church, I was crying during the service partly because I was praising God and partly because I was overwhelmed because of some of the things I am going through right now. My husband and I are going to be empty nesters after my son graduates high school at the end of June and then goes off to Marine boot camp a week later. Then soon after he is gone we are going to move in with my mother-in-law to help her maintain and share her home since we need to downsize anyway. But we do not have a date for this move since we do not know when his employer might transfer him. It could be anytime between May and December of this year. And there are a couple of other minor irritations that are not worth mentioning.

But God is good! Usually rainbows are high up in the sky, we can see them but they are so far away they are untouchable. We can take pictures of them but they are just out of reach. Here in the Pacific Northwest it rains a lot but that also means it is very green: the evergreens and other trees, the grass for most of the year and we can grow many fruits and vegetables here because of the wet weather. It also means we see a lot of rainbows because when the clouds disappear suddenly as they do often, the rainbows come out. Today a rainbow appeared right in front of me on the road as I was driving! It was large and full of bright colors, not like the narrow ones you see in the sky and so amazing! If I wasn’t driving I would have taken a picture but I don’t think that would have been a good idea, grin.

God created rainbows to remind Noah that He would never again destroy the earth or those that live on it. Today He gave me a rainbow to remind me just when I think I might want to give up and throw in the towel, God shows up and gives me a sign that all is well. It will be well because He is with us and has… Click To TweetGod loves us so much that He takes time to send us rainbows, birds and coins! I have heard countless stories of people who have encounters with God through unusual signs and know that they are a message from God. I hope you will take the time today and praise God because He will help you find some rainbows… Click To TweetGod bless you all!

Choose your thoughts

I didn’t know what I was going to write until today. Usually I have it planned a few days ahead of time. but God was waiting for me to clean up some clutter where I found an old journal. Inside was a piece of paper on which I wrote a note to myself saying: ‘Condemnation is the worst thing you can do as far as spiritual growth is concerned. I know from personal experience that this is what has caused and what makes my self confidence worse. Every time I find something about my self I don’t like or I’ve done wrong, I fixate on it and analyze it to death, which usually makes my confidence go down the toilet and my depression return. Then I found Eph. 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others [and yourself] up according to their needs that it may benefit those who listen.”’

We have to stop the negative self talk immediately or the analyzing and round and round “I should eat less of this” or “get this sucked out” or” have that surgery” thinking makes us crazy. This can bring on depression and more negative thinking. Replace those negative thoughts with positive ones like, “God loves me and thinks I’m beautiful,” “God loves me and I’m wonderfully made,” or “God sent His Son to die for me.” I put this funny cartoon up because it is just like having a good thought on one shoulder and bad thought on the other, WHICH ONE WILL YOU CHOOSE?

I leave you with Paul’s wish for the Philippians, and my wish for you: “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation, the right righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ, for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” Phil. 1:11
