Shine Your Light

If you missed week 1 Greatest Love of All, week 2 You are God’s Masterpiece, week 3 Using the Love verses on yourself or week 4 As far as the East is from the West click on their titles on the right.

Chapter 4 of the book is a more in depth study on forgiveness. This is a quote from Chapter 5:

We also doubt God loves us because we don’t think we are good enough. We’ve all had someone in our lives who told us that we aren’t pretty enough, smart enough or we weren’t good at anything. It may have been a parent, or a teacher or a friend. This was the initial cause of our low self esteem. But those people just didn’t/don’t see our potential. They didn’t see how well you could draw or sing or paint or write computer code or give advice. Everyone does something well, God just has to reveal it to you and then you will see just how good you are. You may know what it is but just haven’t shown it to the world yet. Are you afraid that no one will like what you are or what you have done? If God has given you this gift, it is something that is meant to be shared not hidden. Do not hide your light! (Luke 11:33)”

The title of the chapter is “Don’t Let Other People Change Your Self Worth.” There are people that make themselves feel better by making others feel bad. And unfortunately, if your self-esteem is already bad, it just makes you feel worse. Then your negative tapes start all over again. But God does not want that for you! God wants you to love yourself as much as He loves you! He says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” “You are His MASTERPIECE!” DON’T LET THE WORLD DICTATE WHO YOU ARE AND BASE YOUR SELF-ESTEEM ON THE ONE WHO CREATED YOU. And this negativity may be holding you back from doing what God wants you to do. There are some visual exercises like the Favorite Body Part Exercise and the Velcro Exercise in “You are God’s Masterpiece!” that can help you overcome those obstacles and transform your negative tapes into positive ones. Or send this post to a friend who needs a self-love transformation.

  1. “If God has given you this gift, it is something that is meant to be shared not hidden. Do not hide your light!” Great advice. If it’s enough for God, that should be more than enough for us. Thanks for sharing this, Steph.

  2. Hi Steph,
I think a lot of time we are expecting some great special gifting from God that stands out quite visible to everyone when often times it is the natural talents we have that blossoms into gifts and ministries. Like you mention, writing computer code, or teaching others how to use the computer, or even welcoming newcomers to church is a gift. Some people shine at that more than others. Anything we do, do it as unto the Lord.
Thanks for the encouragement, Steph. Stopped by from Faith & Friends Friday.

    1. Yes, Cindy, even the smallest things can be appreciated by most people, especially those who are walking into church for the first time! Thanks so much for the comments, God bless you.

  3. There are so many nuggets in there and this is one blog post that needs to be savored. Thanks for reminding us that we should not let others change our self-worth.

  4. Truly, our value comes from God. Every ability we have is a gift from Him, and He wants us to use each one for His glory.
Visiting from “Coffee for your Heart”.
    Blessings!

  6. Wow, What great advice! I have always wanted to be a writer and I started blogging a few months ago. Every step I take I keep thinking God put this in my heart, but who really cares what I have to say. What you said rang so true to me. He wouldn’t give me a talent to hide it. Today your words were the Lord whispering to me. Thank you!

    1. So glad to have you join us, Jenna. There are many bloggers out there but I have found that God gives us each a different thing to say and it will touch someone who needs it! God bless you.
