Happy New Year

It’s that time of year again. We are starting a new year. Weren’t we just worrying about how computers were going to handle the change from 1999 to the year 2000?? Maybe that dates me but I was concerned about it. Now, eighteen years later we are worrying about the new tax plan or how the new leadership will deal with North Korea and China. We recently had a train accident near my home that made me see just how precious life is and that it can change in an instant, which makes me appreciate my life and family a little more.

At the beginning of a new year, some people make a new year’s resolution. One statistic I read said that only eight percent of people keep their resolutions. I looked up the definition of resolution and it said: intent, decision, plan. Unfortunately, most people who make resolutions don’t plan well. They just put the decision in the back of their mind and think about it once in awhile. But they don’t do anything to change their lives and make it a habit instead of an idea. For instance, say you want to increase the number of times a day you pray. What steps would you take to do that? First, you need to think about what time in your schedule would allow for more prayer. You could  get up 15 minutes earlier every day. You could use part of your lunch hour to pray. You could pray while the kids are taking a nap. Or you could pray while driving home from work (or on the bus/subway) instead of listening to music. But please keep your eyes open if you are driving! Whatever you decide your resolution will be, make a plan, put it on your calendar even and your resolution will turn into a reality instead of just a thought. “Good planning and hard work will lead to prosperity.” Prov. 21:5 Even in the Bible God talks about planning, but it also mentions that you shouldn't do it without Him in mind. Proverbs 16:1

We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.

vs. 3 – Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 16:9

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

So make sure to pray before you move forward with your plans and resolution. Is this what God is calling you to do? Or does He have something else in mind for you? Although I’m sure prayer is something He would agree we all need more of, there are some things we think we need that God doesn’t agree with. I will continue to pray that all of you love Him with your whole heart.

My resolution is to make and keep God as my focus and seek His Kingdom first above all things.  So for the next few weeks on the blog I will be sharing what I learn about this in His Word. I hope you will come back and learn with me. Mt. 6:33
